The average consumer has an attention span of just 7 seconds.

In the time it takes to squeeze a lemon, 74% of your website visitors will judge your credibility on the quality of your spelling, grammar and tone. If your copywriting is bad, 59% of all your potential leads will actively decide to NOT use your services.

That's right... more than half of your leads will say no before you have the opportunity to present yourself.

Good copywriting can change that!

Take a look at some of my most commonly-asked questions below. If you would prefer to talk about how it works in person, please do get in touch. I'll be very happy to assist.

What does a professional copywriter do?

Every project starts with a relaxed conversation about your business, and also about the people who your business wants to target. As a professional copywriter, my job is to bridge the gap between the story you would like to tell, and the story your audience needs to hear to persuade them to buy into your brand. I'm a B2B copywriter, writing B2C stories for your business.

Which industries do you work with?

As a general rule of thumb, if you need complex information to be told in a simple, human kind of way, I can assist you with your copywriting. I write for businesses in the professional services, as well as the travel, hospitality and lifestyle industries. I like to work with clients who offer a service as their primary product, and clients who focus on people development within their business. Many of my clients are large corporate companies, while others are small businesses with just one or two staff. I'm comfortable working in both scenarios, and have a wealth of experience to draw from.

Why do I need professional copywriting?

Think of your copywriting as the 24/7 face of your business. Everything you write, be it for a website, brochure or social media, represents your business while you're off doing other things. You need to hire the right person who can carry your business without you - that person is your copywriting. Hiring a professional copywriter ensures your most important sales rep is telling the right story, to the right people, in the right way, to win prospects over before you lose them in the browsing phase.

Should I design my website or do my copywriting first?

Words are more powerful than images, so it's always best to write the copy for your website (or brochure) first. This will also make it easier for you or your web designer to create a design that shows your story in the best possible light.

What if I need you for lots of little things?

I offer a retainer to clients who need regular copywriting projects to be completed on an ad-hoc basis. We'll assess how many hours or days a week you think you'll want me for and take it from there, so you'll only pay for the right amount of time.

Is it expensive to hire a professional copywriter?

There is an upfront expense to have your brand content professionally written, but this is a once-off cost that will grow the value of your business exponentially over time. Copywriting enhances the perceived value of your products and services, so you can ask for a higher selling price without changing your product suite.

Copywriting persuades more people to say yes, so you can sell more of your services without increasing your advertising costs. Copywriting also brings more footfall to your business, so you can sell your services for a higher profit margin, at a higher conversion rate, to more qualified leads. In the grand scheme of things, the once-off cost of hiring a professional copywriter is one of the most cost-efficient ways you can invest in your business for the long term.

How is copywriting different to the normal writing I do every day anyway?

Professional copywriting takes time and thought. It's 30% putting the right words together, 20% tweaking the syntax to be just so, and 50% exploring the many layers of consumer behaviour to channel emotional demand into your services. Most people can sit and churn out a few words about their business, but very few can apply the layered depth that all great advertising needs.

How can copywriting make my advertising costs cheaper?

Firstly, copywriting means more people are likely to respond positively to your value proposition, which means you can run fewer ads to get the same results. SEO copywriting also boosts your Google relevance score, which increases your chance of ranking organically to attract pre-qualified leads, and means you're more likely to win the Google Ads bid at a lower PPC cost.

Do I need to have everything professionally written, or can I do some of it myself?

You can start with one project and add other projects as time and budget allows. My recommendation is to start with your website and quote proposals, then add business emails, blog articles and other marketing collateral when you're ready to up your game.

What do you need from me?

I need about an hour of your time to talk about your business, thereafter I'll work my wonders while you get on with other things.

What are your T&Cs?

I like to keep it simple. Once we've had a chat I'll send you a proposal with a quote. If you're happy to go ahead, I'll ask for a week or two to work on your project, and you'll have 7 days to request any changes if you would like to tweak anything. Payment is due 7 days after delivery, and on receipt of your payment, the copyrights pass to you. You can use the content however you would like to, as long as it's for the business you originally hired me for. Full terms and conditions can be found here.

Do you offer design services or social media management?

No, I think it's best to focus on what I do best, which is copywriting. I do, however, have first-hand experience working with some of Edinburgh's best web designers, graphic designers and social media managers, so I'll be happy to put you in touch with someone suitable if you would like me to.
